Written guides
Create a separate ReelCost project for each production. Set the correct title, starting budget, currency, company, producer, director, and production dates before entering detailed costs.
Always confirm the selected project before uploading a script, importing a budget, recording expenses, or exporting reports.
Home summarizes funding, spending, forecast, and recent activity. Daily focuses on selected production days and scheduled personnel. Budget holds departments, accounts, line items, payments, and ETC. Script contains uploaded source material and AI-assisted planning. Reports creates handoff-ready outputs.
Keep budgeted, earned, committed, paid, and estimated-to-complete values distinct. Work scheduled through the selected date accrues automatically, but it is not marked paid automatically. After a confirmed disbursement, use Pay accrued to date or enter a verified partial amount in Paid to date. ReelCost updates the paid, owed, unpaid-balance, and forecast totals.
Buddy is the authenticated, read-only in-app assistant. It can explain the current budget snapshot, ReelCost features and plans, identify items worth reviewing, and suggest practical next steps. It cannot change the budget. Buddy displays the included monthly turns remaining and purchased credits. One successful answer uses one turn; opening or reading Buddy, using its navigation buttons, and failed requests use none.
Final Draft .fdx is preferred for structured screenplays; text-based PDFs are also supported. Generated answers, analyses, treatments, estimates, fringe guidance, and breakdowns may be incomplete or incorrect. Do independent research and verify current figures with primary sources and the appropriate attorney, union or guild, entertainment payroll professional, CPA, insurance broker, or safety authority.
Buddy is also the public website assistant. It explains ReelCost and asks a few practical questions before recommending a tier. It cannot see accounts or budgets. Contact retention, newsletters, and product-announcement subscriptions require explicit, separate permission. The current website conversation stays available while moving between pages in the same browser session and can be cleared from the chat.
Choose the interface language in the account menu. The choice persists on the device. Arabic uses right-to-left layout.
Generated treatments, analyses, and scene breakdowns keep the original version. When another interface language is selected, ReelCost creates or loads a translated rendering. User-entered titles, names, and account codes remain unchanged.
Reports can include Excel, top sheet PDF, full budget PDF, treatment PDF, and scene-breakdown PDF. Supported native reports open the device save/share sheet. Movie Magic XML/JSON and Scheduling SEX are beta interchange formats; verify beta files in the intended destination application.
Free includes one active production and 5 Buddy turns monthly. Producer includes 4 active productions, 4 script-AI workflows and 40 Buddy turns monthly. Production Pro includes 10 active productions, 12 shared script-AI workflows, 150 Buddy turns monthly, and the owner plus 3 collaborators. Project Pass covers one production for 90 days with 3 script-AI workflows and 30 Buddy turns and does not auto-renew. Purchased AI credits are shared by eligible script workflows and Buddy answers after included allowances are exhausted.
Confirm the correct account and project, preserve the exact error, retry a failed AI request only once, and avoid simultaneous edits while diagnosing synchronization. Include the device, platform, build, approximate time, expected result, actual result, and a redacted screenshot when contacting ReelCost support. ReelCost support covers the product; professional production obligations belong with the appropriate qualified professional or governing entity.
